V9985 ZA-V from 10 Squadron
On 30th March 1942, the crew of Halifax V9985 ZA-V from 10 Squadron took off at1848 hrs from RAF Lossiemouth on the North East Coast of Scotland to participate in an attack on the German Battleship Tirpitz which was moored at the time in Fættenfjord in Norway.
The crew found the target area to be obliterated by 10/10th's low cloud and could not locate the target. They jettisoned their load of 4 x 1,000lb mines at 2219 hrs in Trondheimfjord from a height of 4,500 feet. The aircraft and crew returned safely to base landing at RAF Lossiemouth at 0235 hrs on 31st March. |
