W1051 TL-C from 35 Squadron



On 27th April 1942, the crew of Halifax W1051 TL-C from 35 Squadron took off at 2032 hrs from RAF Kinloss on the North East coast of Scotland to participate in an attack on the German Battleship Tirpitz which was moored at the time in Fættenfjord in Norway.

This aircraft was hit by flak just west of Trondheim while flying to the target resulting in the aircraft losing height. Consequently the crew jettisoned their load of mines and returned to base landing safely at RAF Kinloss at 0532 hrs on 28th April 1942.

Arrived in the target area to find Tirpitz obscured by the smoke screen. Dropped mines in estimated position of ship.

The aircraft and crew returned safely to RAF Kinloss landing at 0547 hrs on 29th April 1942.
