W1019 TL-U from 35 Squadron



On 30th March 1942, the crew of Halifax W1019 TL-U from 35 Squadron took off at approximately 1900 hrs from RAF Kinloss on the North East coast of Scotland to participate in an attack on the German Battleship Tirpitz which was moored at the time in Fættenfjord in Norway.

The aircraft and crew reached the target area and returned safely to RAF Kinloss in the early hours of 31st March 1942.

On 27th April 1942, the crew of Halifax W1019 TL-U from 35 Squadron took off at 2029 hrs from RAF Kinloss on the North East coast of Scotland to participate in an attack on the German Battleship Tirpitz which was moored at the time in Fættenfjord in Norway.

On arriving in the target area they found Tirpitz obscured by a smoke screen and dropped their mines in a position believed to have been between the land and Tirpitz.

The aircraft and crew returned safely to RAF Kinloss landing at 0525 on 28th April 1942.
