Sergeant William Morphet Greenbank, RAFVR

William Morphet Greenbank

William Morphet Greenbank was born in 1922, son of Fred and Sarah Elizabeth Greenbank of Windermere, Westmoreland, England.

William joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve as an Air Gunner. He was killed in the last stages of his training when the Wellington bomber he was onboard failed to return from a training flight from 20 Operational Training Unit (20 OTU) at Lossiemouth on January 19th 1942.

Initially William was buried on March 2nd with the other members of the Wellington crew at Dyce Old Churchyard near Aberdeen. However, his family later requested for permission to have him buried in his local cemetery and in November 1942 his remains were reinterred in St Mary's Cemetery, Windermere, Westmoreland.
